The comparison of the intratumoral retention of radioactivity after intratumoral injections of 131I-GMSs and Na131I solution.131I-GMSs provided sustained intratumoral retention of injected radioactivity, maintaining 19.93 ± 5.24% of the injected radioactivity within the tumors after 16 days. In contrast, radioactivity was cleared rapidly from the tumors after injection of Na131I solution. By 1 h, the Na131I solution–treated group retained only 1.83 ± 0.46% of the injected radioactivity within the tumors.
